I bought my first hydroponic growing system on August 28th. The RainPoint rekindled my love for gardening and so my tiny indoor garden blossomed! I decided to plant a few of my favorite herbs and vegetables to start: cilantro, basil, cherry and roma tomatoes, big Jim and keystone peppers, lettuce and a few melons (watermelon, cantaloupe and pumpkin). (I made a poor choice germinating various melons due to my lack of space. -I was feeling ambitious- I currently only have three surviving pumpkin plants. I’m not sure how well they’ll do indoors but it will be a fun experiment to track.) My plan in the future is to focus more on herbs and leafy greens.
It’s amazing how much progress the plants have made in a little over a month!
I initially started some of the seeds in my RainPoint and some in seed starting trays with humidity domes. I wanted to track different growing styles. I didn’t know which method I preferred at the time. Prior to both these methods I was germinating my seeds simply on a wet paper towel in a ziplock bag. That was tried and true but as of now I prefer using growing systems.
Some of the initial seeds in the RainPoint were transplanted to nutrient rich soil in self watering containers. At the time I was thinking of using the system as a seed starter. Now I want to focus on strictly growing hydroponically moving forward.
